August 2011 – "Made in Langmeil" In The New Production Facility

High-resolution video systems from MOBOTIX AG have been produced at the company’s site in Langmeil, a town not far from Kaiserslautern, since August. An average of over 10,000 products are now being built at the new 6,000-square meter facility every month. This is almost 100 percent more than at the beginning of 2009. The production facility provides 3,700 m² of production area. There is also 1,500 m² of storage space, 600 m² of office space and more than 350 m² for common rooms. September 2011 – HIGHlight: The World's Highest Webcam On Mount Everest

If the summer in Germany gets too hot for you, cool down over the Internet. Real-time video from the top of Mount Everest is now available for everyone anytime. A new record is set with a MOBOTIX camera that makes this possible: the operation of the world’s highest webcam at temperatures reaching minus 30 degrees Celsius. The EV-K2-CNR scientific committee from Bergamo, Italy, installed an M12 MOBOTIX camera on nearby Kala Patthar (5,675 meters). This camera is currently recording stunning images of the 8,848-meter tall Mount Everest. The video shows Mount Everest as well as the South Col Plateau on the right side of the image. The image is updated every five minutes so that we can even track the movement of the clouds around the peak of the mountain. The webcam is only active during daylight hours (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Nepalese time, which is from 12:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Central European Time) and is available at http://www.evk2cnr.org/WebCams/PyramidOne/everest-webcam.html.

06/01/2012 - MOBOTIX CCTV critical for new "state of the art" lights out data centre at Oxford University

J Brand delivers complete solution offering biometrics, remote management and total site coverage to boost security and deliver best practice data centre design

UK – January 9th, 2012 – MOBOTIX AG, a leading manufacturer of digital high-resolution, network-based video security systems has released details of a project at a new state of the art, multi million pound data centre built by Oxford University that is benefiting from advanced MOBOTIX CCTV technology to improve operational procedures.

Oxford University is one of the worlds leading academic and research communities and at its heart is a complex and powerful IT infrastructure. Although many of the colleges run their own computing environments, Oxford University Computing Services (OUCS) is tasked with providing many of the key shared facilities, services and core networks reaching all departments and colleges.

With the growth of virtualisation technologies, the newest OUCS facility built at its South Parks Road site has been designed to allow IT to become a more fluid resource. As David Birds, Data Centre Manager for OUCS explains; from its inception, the design needed to be in-line with best practice in terms of remote management, provisioning and security. "We had looked at how other modern data centres were constructed and evaluated elements like rack design, cooling, PDUs, monitoring and security. From day one, we always envisioned the data centre to be effectively "lights-out" but with a high level of automation and security to ensure the safety of the site and any lone workers."

Working closely with J Brand, an Advanced MOBOTIX Partner and principal contractor for the data centre fit-out, Birds conducted a comprehensive review of potential CCTV solutions. The system needs to integrate alongside a range of security measures such as biometric readers, RFID keycards and anti-tailgating doors.

"It was clear from early on that the MOBOTIX solution was particularly well suited to our requirements as it offered high quality images, proven reliability and hemispheric technology to allow us to cover the widest areas with as fewest possible cameras," explains Birds, "the fact that the systems had scope to add additional features such as integration with access devices and audio also provided a strong case for the longevity of the solution."

Just 16 cameras including 14 x Q24 hemispheric models cover the 12,000 Sq/f facility. "The implementation was relatively straight forward and like the entire facility, the cameras have access to redundant power and battery backup," Birds adds.

OUCS has opened the doors to the first University Department to make use of the facility and the lights-out nature of the centre also provides a significant operational benefit. "Having staff on site is a waste of resources as 99% of all the provisioning, adds, moves and changes that need to take place are all done remotely," explains Bird. "Any activity inside the centre now leaves a full video audit trail which has significant advantages over a guard who, even if we had one, would never be allowed to wander unsupervised around the more critical parts of the facility."

23/12/2011 - The Only IP Video Door Station In The World Featuring Allround View Without Any Blind Spots And With Worldwide Connection

Winnweiler/Langmeil, Germany, 23 December 2011. MOBOTIX released the T24 IP Video Door Station on 20 December 2011. In addition to the video door intercom, MOBOTIX also released the RFID access module (Keypad), the Security Door Opener and the two-wire network module (Mx2wire info module). The new IP telephony standard enables the user to establish a direct connection from the Door Station to any VoIP phone or any computer or smartphone running VoIP software. This means that with appropriate network infrastructure, the user can establish a video connection, remotely open doors or view stored video messages and review recordings from anywhere in the world.

MOBOTIX' hemispheric camera technology enables the user to view the entire area in front of the building in the video. This means that the image section can always be focused on any area of interest, regardless of the distance between the Door Station and the door itself.

The image is tilted and zoomed electronically without any mechanical movement, meaning that there is no wear and tear to the camera and no maintenance is required. In addition, the MOBOTIX system allows users to return to the recording at a later time and view all areas of the video, all the way down to the floor in front of the camera – even if the video at the time of the actual recording was focused on the visitor’s face.

The Door Station can be accessed from anywhere in the world, as the IP telephone connection is established automatically via the network. This means that central control units and computers are not required for operation. The Door Station consumes very little power (around five watt-hours), which is provided directly via the Ethernet cable. The automatic installation enables the user to set up the system quickly and easily without the need for extensive network knowledge.

The MOBOTIX Door Station sets completely new standards when it comes to security. All data transmissions to and between the modules are highly encrypted and the access rights are stored and checked from a secure location indoors. Even in the case of a complete power failure, the RFID access module – in connection with the rechargeable battery of the Security Door Opener – ensures up to 60 hours of keyless access. As standard, the individual modules of the Door Station are equipped with electromagnetic anti-theft protection to secure them against unauthorized removal.

The RFID access module enables keyless access using a card transponder or by entering a PIN number. Access requests are encrypted and transferred to the Security Door Opener via a two-wire cable and once the access request is cleared, the door opens. Moreover, visitors can leave their own messages or view video messages that were left for them.

The Security Door Opener contains all PIN numbers, transponder data and access times for opening the door. Since this module is installed indoors and no relevant access data is stored outdoors, the Door Station is secure against theft and manipulation. In addition, the module functions as a doorbell and the user can select from a wide range of different ring tones. It is not necessary to connect an extra power source to operate the electrical door opening and closing mechanism, because the Security Door Opener generates the required voltage with its integrated rechargeable battery.

The two-wire network module (Mx2wire info module), an illuminated door sign that can replace the simple info module of the Door Station, supplies power to the module and establishes the network connection via two standard bell wires. This way, the station can be integrated in any older building, either as an on-wall or in-wall version.

14/12/2011 - MOBOTIX sparks Orwell Festival Debate

CCTV expert from NCPI Solutions demonstrates state of the art CCTV technology at event celebrating the life of one of England’s most influential 20th century authors

UK – December 14th, 2011 - One of the highlights of the George Orwell Festival was a well received presentation from CCTV expert Stephen Burley which argued that: "Next-generation CCTV technology is shaping our future for the better", completed with a demonstration of a cutting edge MOBOTIX CCTV system.

The George Orwell Festival hosts a variety of events celebrating the respected and influential author including staged adaptations of Orwell’s stories, art exhibitions, comedy evenings and themed talks. The festival runs in early September in the garden city and nearby Wallington, where the author of the iconic political novels "Nineteen Eighty-Four" and "Animal Farm" lived.

Stephen Burley, who is a Security Consultant at NCPI, a highly respected MOBOTIX Partner, delivered a candid demonstration and presentation on CCTV and how it has affected our lives. In the Orwell book 1984, CCTV was seen to be a malevolent force casting it in a bad light, but perhaps 2011 is the year CCTV outgrows its 'Big Brother is watching you' image and shows it has a positive role to play in society.

The talk looked at whether the positive effects of CCTV get overlooked when the public worry about living in a 'surveillance state'. The presentations gave examples of how complete scenes can be navigated and forensically examined to help solve crimes. CCTV systems are only as good as the person watching the images captured. MOBOTIX will take the guess work out of detecting negative behaviour and alert the relevant authorities of detected threats, being proactive and not passive in its role.

The audience showed great interest in the high quality images and MOBOTIX' ability to react to its environment delivering instant alerts and also the depth of forensic detail that can be obtained from the post-incident images. MOBOTIX image quality and technology is helping to keep the public safe in places such as on public transport and in rural locations where traditional cameras are unsuitable. Following the presentation, a lively Q&A session chaired by technology writer and George Orwell Festival co-ordinator James Hayes had to be extended for an extra hour as the highly interactive debate sprang up amongst the audience and the CCTV expert.

"It is interesting that in the recent riots much of the images that were used to identify rioters actually came from other members of the public from cameras on mobile phones", comments Stephen. "Citizens used video and images to help fight crime. This shows just how much we have grown to accept video as part of our society."

There is more in Orwell’s book "Nineteen Eighty-Four" that is far more sinister in its role than Big Brother and that we as a global society have come to accept. Due to its visibility CCTV got the bad press but is now poised to change people’s perception that surveillance is not necessarily a bad thing.

29/11/2011 - First Place in Germany’s SMB Ranking

MOBOTIX Score Points with Robust Growth, Strong Sales and International Focus

Winnweiler/Langmeil, Germany, November 29, 2011. The management consulting firm Munich Strategy Group evaluated a total of 1,600 businesses from across Germany for their "Top 100 – Small and Medium-Sized Business Rankings 2011". MOBOTIX, the world's largest manufacturer of network-based video security systems in the megapixel range, earned first place in the rankings thanks largely to their impressive growth and consistent expansion strategy. This Top 100 list was compiled in association with one of Germany’s biggest daily newspapers, "Die Welt".

Outstanding Results Thanks to Strong Sales and Consistent International Focus

Out of the 1,600 companies evaluated, MOBOTIX stood out through their dynamic growth. In the financial year 2010/2011, the Langmeil-based company reported a 36 percent increase in sales. Between 2005 and 2011, the technology company’s sales grew by an average of more than 35 percent, resulting in an increase in the rate of return of close to 20 percent. "MOBOTIX has a top-notch sales force. Within a very short time, the company successfully shifted its business model to focus on international markets", says Sebastian Theopold, Managing Director of Munich Strategy Group. All over the world, MOBOTIX video surveillance systems are in use at embassies, airports, train stations, ports, gas stations, hotels and highways. Cameras from the German manufacturer can even be found at soccer stadiums like Betzenberg, Paris, Donetsk (UEFA EURO 2012 stadium) and, in a few years, at the World Cup 2022 stadium in Qatar - not to forget the world-famous Vatican Library!

To achieve this success on international markets and to continue the global expansion, MOBOTIX maintains sales teams around the world, holds more than 20 international partner conferences each year and is present at over 100 trade fairs across the globe. These efforts are reflected in sales: 76 percent of all MOBOTIX camera systems are sold to international customers.

"We are very pleased to have earned first place in this nationwide ranking", says Dr. Ralf Hinkel, Founder and CEO of MOBOTIX. "In a relatively short time, our decentralized technology approach has led to some major successes that we intend to build on with ongoing technological developments and international expansion. Increasing our product range and moving into a bigger production facility at our Langmeil headquarters will certainly contribute to our future growth."

Impressive Success Story

Dr. Ralf Hinkel founded MOBOTIX in late 1999, and at the end of 2001, he launched his first cameras onto the market. What sets these cameras apart is the decentralized technological approach with a high-performance computer integrated into every camera and an optional long-term, digital flash memory (MicroSD card) that allows several days of recordings to be stored on the device. The image data is processed in the camera itself rather than being transported to the control center for analysis. The decentralized concept makes high-resolution video systems profitable for real-world applications, because despite megapixel resolution, the local networks hardly get loaded. As a result, high-resolution security systems can be implemented without any major network upgrades. The approach has proven to be a success as demonstrated by the long and growing list of companies from around the world that have opted for MOBOTIX systems.
