Can the 100m cable length limitation be extended via Ethernet boosters?

Friday, 17 October 2008 5:51:43 am

I have an installation situation where the camera(s) will be appx. 200m from the network switch. I've sucessfully used ethernet extenders in the past to extend data runs. Can these same ethernet extenders be used to extend the reach of the Mobotix camera installation?

The PSE (power sourcing equipment) can't deliver power over 100 meters in distance using utp you would need a power injector for the last 100 meters if you were not going to supply the camera with AC power.

Transition Networks has a PoE Copper to Fiber convertor product that would extend the PoE over fiber ..

I'm sure there are others .. this was the first i found.

LevelOne do a PoE repeater that will extend both the data and power run by up to 100m and you can link two together in any one run, enabling you to situate a camera up to 300m away from the PoE switch. http://global.level1.com/product_d.php?id=604

They are available in the UK from Mayflex, the world's biggest Mobotix distributor. www.mayflex.com
