MXCC Server and clients?

Dimanche 08 Novembre 2009 8:13:36 pm

I am looking to replace a Milestone XProtect installation with MXCC, but the issue that I am having is that Milestone XProtect has both server and client (monitor) components... I know that not requiring a server is one of the benefits of Mobotix cameras, but unfortunately our system is about half Mobotix and half Axis.

Also, all of our cameras are behind a firewall, and I would prefer to only open a single port to a "server" (currently port 443 to the XProtect server) rather than opening a port to each of the Mobotix cameras.

Lastly, we need to have 4 monitoring stations throughout the building - and each station needs to be able to control PTZ on any given camera. With the XProtect server and XProtect Smart Client, we simply install the Smart Client on any monitoring station and give it the server IP and login details, and all cameras/views/etc are available.

Is any of this possible with MXCC?

Hi, I would like to know the conclusion to your described situation. I have a similar requirement and i'm planning to install mxcc to evaluate if it is suitable. I too have both Axis and Mobotix Cameras.

hello guys.

the MxCC is currently not capable of being "remoted" as a client-server application like you want. Maybe one day it will be, but not now. If you wanna use it though, since it's certainly cheaper than the Milestone product, you could configure all of your cameras to use HTTPS only and connect to them that way. Of course, if the cameras are behind a proxy and/or NAT router, you'll have to configure the proxy/NAT to use a different port for each one - e.g http://www.yoursite.com:64401 is forwarded to 10.3.49.1:443, http://www.yoursite.com:64402 is forwarded to 10.3.49.2:443, etc. It's not a pretty solution, but workable and since you'd be using non-reserved ports (those from 49152 through 65535 - see http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers) and HTTPS it'd be secure.

and I'm not sure about PTZ control either. I've heard that outgoing joystick PTZ commands (ie from the MxCC) over a proxy to the cameras doesn't currently work either, so you'd have to test that on at least one one camera also, before you implement a MxCC solution.

cheers,
Sam
