Video motion works at night, not in daytime

Jeudi 31 Décembre 2009 5:04:55 am

I have Mobotix M12D cameras, the kind with 3 MP day sensor and 1 MP night sensor. At night, when in B&W mode, I get plenty of motion events, during the day, almost nothing. At least if it was nothing it would be easier to troubleshoot, but the only daytime events I got was when a bird flew right up to the camera. I can stand 10' away from the camera do gymnastics and nothing. I set the camera to use the same VM rectangles for both left & right lens, and tried it the other way, with seperate settings for each, nothing. Sensitive and area definitions are set to defaults at 20 and 25.

I'm wondering if the rectangles are different specs for the 1 MP night sensor vs. the 3 MP day sensor? I tried make one large rectangle and several smaller ones, no luck. I can see people entering the area, but no events are being logged.

The fact that it does work when a bird comes real close tells me that it's likely a vm setting I'm missing. Any ideas?

$noiseadjust=0 and small VM windows

Hi!

SORRY! i read that you have problems in night time with vm but it was just opposite problem

Have you enabled vm on both sensors?

But here is my night time answer anyway

I have two M12 cameras and i was suffering poor video motion detection too, but with these adjusments vm works perfect in night time also:

1.) Use very small VM frames, they work way better than big ones
2.) For night time use, this option was key thing in my setup:

Add $noiseadjust=0 parameter to Video Motion Window parameters, this makes vm very sensitive to noise, but also it makes it more sentive in dark images, for me S=15, A=10 were good paramerts for VM frames...

Mobotix explains this parameter like this:

$noiseadjust=0..1. Controls the sensitivity to image noise.

1 (default): Activates image noise filtering. Differences in the brightness if those image pixels that are below the calculated noise value, will not trigger a video motion window

0: Deactivates image noise filtering. Motion detection is more sensitivity in dark scenes, but the number of false alarms due to image noise may increase.

Try that

I also made different VM windows for both sensors...

The fact that you get an event with a large enough object passing through the field of view indicates that it's a question of proper sensitivity adjustment.

If you set the VM windows to be displayed in live image, you can see the indicator bars and triggering threshold. Just adjust the window size, pixel sensitivity and area threshold to achieve desired results.
