Storage calculator for mobotix camera
Giovedì, 06 Maggio 2010 16:50:52
Hi everyone I'm actually building up a videosurveillance system using Mobotix cameras and it's the firts ever time I'm using MXpeg standard, so I'm looking for a storage calculator to choose the right size for my storage system. If there's no Mobotix tool can anyone compare Mxpeg with other compression format Mpeg or H.264??? Thanks

I just this list

Its tricky to calculate storage because only events will be written to the storage, so depending on the movement in the image there will be a recording or not. and even the amount of pixel change, resolution and framerate has some influence.
in these days when storage is not that expensive just go for enough to be sure
Just use following list as a guideline (no garantuees)
(events % is precentage of time the camera is recording)
Cont Rec. 24h Events 75% Events 50% Events 25%
12 hr. 5 GB 3.8 GB 2.5 GB 1.25 GB
24 hr. 10 GB 7.5 GB 5 GB 2.5 GB
1 Week 70 GB 53 GB 35 GB 27.5 GB
1 Month 310 GB 235 GB 160 GB 80 GB

Martin Morris in the other topic says the MPEG4 calculation gives a good approximation for MXPEG storage and bandwidth usage
