14/06/2006 - "Down Under" in Kaiserslautern

Kaiserslautern welcomed the thousands of soccer fans on Monday this week with tropical weather, blue skies and sunshine. Around 80.000 people gathered in the city, celebrating with the fans from Australia and Japan until the morning hours.
Security is also a hot topic during the games in Kaiserslautern: 75 MOBOTIX megapixel cameras with high-resolution images keep an eye on the security at the Fritz-Walter-Stadium, where the control and storage features of the already installed analog PTZ cameras from Siemens and Lederer were integrated into the MOBOTIX system.

55 additional MOBOTIX cameras are used by the Kaiserslautern transportation system to make arrival and departure of the fans as smooth as possible. The image transfer from the traffic cameras is wireless using Vodafone UMTS. With total costs of 250.000 Euro for the cameras, installation and control center, the traffic surveillance system in Kaiserslautern is the most cost effective of all German towns hosting the games.
