glare from car head lights

Venerdì, 02 Giugno 2006 15:22:36

i have 3 cameras m10's d/n cams round a site that is currently having a lot of trouble with vandilism and break ins

1 of the cameras is mounted 14 ft up on the side of the building facing the access road to monitor for traffice out of hours.
the problem i am getting is when a car or van comes down the access road late at night the glare from the head lights makes the image usless as we can not make out the what the number plate is or even the make of car.

is there any way i can filter the car lights from the image so that i can get an image of what the car is and what the reg is ?

number plate at night

2 suggestions...if you havent already tried them.

You could try setting the exposure window to "All" for the left lens, that may give a better image. Alternatively if you can get a mock number plate made up and mounted next to the access road where you want to catch the cars number plate, then set the exposure window on the left lens around that mock number plate, this may give you the result you're after.

I had the same problem, and no one could offer me a decent solution. What is needed is a mode with more dynamic range to handle widely and rapidly changing light levels. We adjusted the camera as best we could, but in the end, the only solution was to install a street light over the target area in order to equalize the light levels.

headlight or taillight

I don't know if this will help but I have a m12 camera with day and night sensors picking up license plates with the exposure max set lower 1/90 1/250 on the night imager. I also have an IR gun 100' pointed at the same location from just below the camera. This gives a faily unusable picture normally but a great shot of the license when a vehicle goes by.
