Increased demand for MOBOTIX Thermal solutions as part of the international COVID 19 prevention activities

The coronavirus COVID-19 is a massive challenge for governments, authorities and companies worldwide. Every day, we receive updated news on the response and prevention measures of the relevant authorities. One of these measures, which is currently recommended by many responsible sources, is the supportive use of modern stationary thermal imaging or thermal cameras at passages of people.

The demand for MOBOTIX thermal cameras has increased immensely in recent weeks. In response, MOBOTIX has raised production in this segment considerably.

"Revenues of MOBOTIX thermal cameras in the first half of the current fiscal year 2019/20 increased by approx. 48% from approx. €2.5 million to approx. €3.7 million compared to the same period of the previous year," said MOBOTIX CFO Klaus Kiener.

Thermal imaging technology is a non-contact imaging process that makes the infrared radiation of an object visible to the human eye. MOBOTIX thermal cameras can visualize even minimal temperature differences as low as 0.1 °C. This puts them in the top range available for civil use.

"It is always necessary to clarify in each case what contribution MOBOTIX technology can make to individual projects," explains MOBOTIX CTO Hartmut Sprave. "There is no general solution. The accuracy of a temperature measurement using a thermal imaging camera always depends on the current environmental conditions, the emissivity of the measured object and the distance to the camera. In practice, the best possible measurement accuracy can be achieved with a calibrated, so-called black body radioator, which is installed directly next to the measurement object and enables an exact reference value to be compared.”
